The walk in Cranford Park led by the Ranger was most successful. After a heavy shower we had a lovely afternoon learning not only about the wildlife and how they are encouraging it, but also the history of the Berkeley family. We saw an earthstar and a cockspur thorn (crataegus crus-galli). Apparently it is a bumper year for fungi!

What to look out for 1 Telltale signs on cones to see who has been eating them. Woodpeckers shred scales from a cone, squirrels will tear them off leaving a bare stalk 2. Who eats Hazelnuts? Great tits punch a hole in the shell, and the dormouse nibbles a neat hole.
